Overview
Comprehensive care for patients with advanced and end-stage kidney disease, offering kidney transplantation and lifelong follow-up, ensuring consistency, safety, and clinical excellence. We are internationally recognized for our high-volume living donor, pediatric, and paired kidney exchange programs, and for pioneering robotic kidney and pancreas transplantation.
Adult kidney transplantation
The Adult Kidney Transplantation Section is one of the largest and most advanced in the region, delivering comprehensive transplant services for patients with advanced kidney disease. Our multidisciplinary team combines transplant nephrology, surgical organ transplant, immunological expertise, and compassionate patient care to achieve excellent graft and patient survival rates.
We provide complete care from pre-transplant evaluation and counseling to surgery and lifelong follow-up, ensuring safety, continuity, and excellence at every step. The section also provides continuous care for living donors and applies advanced matching systems to ensure fair and optimal organ allocation, achieving world-class outcomes and advancing innovation in kidney transplantation.
Pediatric transplant nephrology
We host one of the world’s largest and most experienced pediatric kidney transplant programs. Performing approximately 80 transplants annually, our multidisciplinary team delivers cutting-edge clinical care, innovative immunodesensitization strategies, and comprehensive long-term follow-up, all within a family-centered and academically enriched environment.
Pancreas transplantation
Our pancreas transplantation program provides advanced care for patients with type I diabetes and kidney failure, offering surgical solutions that restore natural insulin production and improve long-term health. By integrating clinical excellence with research and innovation, we continue to advance the science of pancreas and simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplantation in the region, and in late 2024, the team performed the first robotic pancreas transplant in the Middle East.
Research and innovation
The Kidney and Pancreas Health Centre leads multiple clinical programs aimed at improving graft survival, minimising rejection, and promoting immune tolerance. This includes Phase 3 clinical trials in islet cell transplantation, the implementation of advanced matching algorithms for paired kidney exchange, and national leadership in robotic transplantation. In collaboration with research centres across the region, the Kidney and Pancreas Health Centre fosters a culture of education, discovery, and innovation in transplant science.
